Algeria - Djenet Airport attacked by rebels

Djenet Airport was attacked early in the morning by a group of rebels who damaged a military aircraft. Its belived that the group was later apprehended by the Algerian army

Mauritanian Embassy in Morocco Moved to Rabat

The Mauritania Embassy in ‘Cassa has now moved to Rabat – applications now take 2 days (but at least its in the same street at the Mali Embassy)

Mauritanian Embassy in London to close
04/08/2007

Its been announced that the Mauritanian embassy in London is to close by the end of Sept 2007. Other options are now Paris, Brussels or Casablanca. (Its also possible to get a visa in Madrid but this is apparently not very easy unless you’re a Spanish National)

Armed escort now needed in N.Niger
15/06/2007

Authorities in Niger's remote desert north have banned travel between towns without a military escort. The governor of Agadez has ruled that passengers and goods must be accompanied by soldiers when travelling outside towns after 3 p.m.

Apparently the army don’t have enough funds to supply an escort so travellers will be expected to pay for part of the cost of the convoys.
